Hopper

To celebrate our 25th Anniversary (August 26, 2014) we bought ourselves a motorcycle. The deal was that Kent could get a bike when our youngest child turned 18 and that momentous event happened on March 1st this year. He bought the bike in February but since there's snow on the ground in Calgary until April it was okay with me.

I will admit I wasn't too excited about this new adventure in our lives. I was QUITE happy to ride around on four wheels... NOT just two. I certainly had to overcome some fear issues and just hang on for the ride; literally. The first few times I rode on the back I came home with pain in my neck and shoulders until a friend told me to just relax as the tension was making it worse. Good advice! I decided to just go with it. My life is in God's hands and I was able to get to a new place of total surrender to Him as we did our "practice" runs around Calgary and area.

I DID enjoy shopping for all the gear
This summer has been filled with MANY little road trips and a couple long ones. We have put over 12,000 kms on "Hopper" this year and I have loved almost every minute of it!!

At the end of June we rode out to Abbotsford to celebrate Kent's Dad's 75th birthday then met my parents in the States. We took our time driving from Burlington to Leavenworth, through Idaho, Montana, and back to Calgary.... us on the bike and Mom & Dad in their truck & trailer. I will put up a separate post with details about the trip later.

Many of our Sunday afternoons have taken us through Black Diamond, Cochrane, Airdrie and surrounding areas on our "way home" from church. A few day-trips to Drumheller, Banff, and Canmore have rounded out our regular rides.

Our good friends got their bikes last year so we've been looking forward to joining them on some rides together and we have had some good times with Logan and Stephanie!

We just got back from a four day trip including "Going to the Sun Road" in Montana and the Silverwood Theme Park in Idaho. A lot of driving in pretty much all feasible weather but also a lot of sharing, laughs, beautiful scenery and roller coasters!! Here are a few pics of this mini-vacation and we look forward to more trips with them (and maybe others) next year.

Riding out in the rain. 4.5 hours in a solid rain storm before arriving at a cute, warm & dry hotel in Babb, Montana

Going to the Sun Road   Heading west on Friday then back east on Monday
Had a nice chat with the Ranger.. and her weasel pelts at Logan Pass
Stephanie enjoying the moment
That scenery behind us is just stunning
Silverwood Theme Park was SUPER-DUPER fun!!
Okay, so it's not THE Thunder Mountain Railroad but close enough.

Kent & Stephanie were 'coaster buddies all day... those crazy kids!

On the first night as we approached the US border crossing, it was raining with the most amazing lightning display.

I wish there was a way to easily capture that moment and share it also.

Slightly jealous. Chris just went on a 9 day long bike trip from here down to the Island and back. He wanted me to come, but I last about half hour before my back hurts too much. I didn't think I'd make it that long, especially with how I pack. Glad to see you guys had a good time together.
