Mother's Day in Mexico

Wow,this is such a beautiful place. We walked into the village marketplace today and it struck me how this area of Mexico is the epitome of "old meets new". The hand-laid cobblestone streets, old church steeples with bells ringing out at noon, and wrought iron gates certainly lend to the old world charm. This resort with its high tech amenities, the large tour busses and streets lines with power poles tethered by wires displays to the world that Mexico refuses to be left behind.

But my favorite thing today was spending the entire afternoon walking or resting on the beach and playing in the big breakers with Kent. Like Dad says, "time spent at the seashore is good for the soul".

As I was falling asleep last night I thought I should make a list of all the creatures we've seen. Here it is so far:

Dogs (feral and friendly)
Horses (two of which live right behind our hotel room and we see them every day)
Baby stingray on the beach (very cool)
Iguanas
Very large prehistoric looking birds
Cute and noisy birds
Leaf cutter ants (again, very cool)
Fish
Lizards
Geckos
Rooster and hen
Sand tracks of a sea turtle (hope to see one before we leave)

As for Mother's Day, I have pretty much missed it as Mexicans celebrate their moms on May 10th every year and we arrived here on the 11th. My beautiful daughters did, however, send me a wonderful Facebook photo of themselves with roses for me. You girls are awesome.
